Oneness - a Poem

Background: I wrote this poem on Good Friday 1998 when I was meditating in a yurt just outside Bellingen in the Thora Valley. I wrote it while listening again and again to a track by Kenny G called Innocence. One day I will do an audio using this as it fitted so perfectly!

ONENESS 
...And the rain started
heralded by a low rolling thunder beyond the mountains
and as the dusk set in with the freshness of new rain
streaking dusty leaves and chirping frogs from the river below

....we touched...
and the gentleness of his fingers as he traced every outline,
every nook and cranny,
now feather-like, then deeply caressing ...
my body... open, waiting... every nerve becoming more awake
with each sigh and all so so..o still
still and expanding...

And when our eyes met I recognised you
oh, I’ve known you for so long...
we shared a thousand memories from a thousand lifetimes
of laughter, sadness, solitude, success, living and dying...
so many journeys, so much joy and pain

And in that recognition we became not man and woman,
but two beings bathed in light
and as the mist rolled over the top of the mountain
and the summer rain fell gently and warmly
our two lights ...slowly ...merged into one
and through the glow I could still see your face smiling deeply into me
seeing and feeling all of who I was
Who I am….

And as the summer rain glistened on thirsty leaves
and meandered itself down the stained glass windows,
so too did tears of old pain and sadness
welling up from old forgotten depths
flooding to the surface
freed at last
mingling with yours
tasting the saltiness...

and then...crinkly eyes smiling
becoming tears of joy
because that’s all Past
and you are here
and we are here - Now
and Love IS all there is

...and as we two beings merged more into the light
so too did a ethereal orange glow light up the mountain
thunder rolled again in the distance
and darkness settled upon the land
as we lay entwined together
two beings - so separate, so different, so much to learn
and yet so surrendered as One
